Welcome Address

The proverbial narrative of a tiny mustard seed sprouting to make a stand in the grove epitomises the chronicle of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Nigeria, in the global annals of postgraduate training. This feat characterises the prominent, creative, resilient and resourceful traits of the graduates that the University has produced through her Postgraduate School in just over two decades.
The mission of the school is to develop graduate students with independent creative thinking and enquiry, through training and research to meet societal needs. There are over 50 departments across 13 faculties/colleges, running more than 90 postgraduate programmes (PhD, MPhil, M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA, MPA, MPH, MTM, MEHM and PGD) in the school. Cumulatively, the school has turned out more than 2,000 doctoral and over 30,000 master’s candidates in both academic and professional streams.
The exciting horizon of the graduates of the Postgraduate School, both in the public and private sectors of the economy across the globe is not surprising. This academic community has about 772 seasoned scholars spread across various cadres with uncommon traits for academic excellence in outcome-based teaching and learning as well as impactful research that are of global relevance. These scholars drive the vision and mission of the school with student-centeredness, observing global best practices. Worthy of note in this regard are the non-teaching members of staff whose ethical perspectives and commitment to duty create a conducive environment for postgraduate training.
Today, several of the alumni have occupied and are occupying prominent positions as Vice Chancellors, Managing Directors, Executive Directors, Chief Executive Officers, Commissioners, and Permanent Secretaries to mention a few. These are direct responses to the resource-studded school that is continuously being evaluated and expanded.
Expansion of the school’s horizon is ongoing through improved teaching, learning, research, commercialisation and community engagement. Current statistics put the average resident time for the doctoral and master's programmes at 38 and 16 months, respectively, with corresponding average turnout rates of 78 doctoral and 1800 master’s degree graduates per year. The school also engages in hosting public lectures on national issues and academic workshops for capacity building for both staff and students. In sustaining the horizon of excellence in training, the following six (6) cardinal objectives are currently being pursued:
  1. Excellence in teaching and learning ;
  2. Excellence in research, innovation and commercialisation;
  • Robust Infrastructure, Information and Communication Technology System;
  1. Efficient service delivery;
  2. Financial sustainability; and
  3. Improved global visibility and reputation.

On this note, on behalf of the Board of Postgraduate School, I wholeheartedly commend all the alumni who have been instrumental to the enviable reputation of the school. A big congratulations and a warm welcome to all the newly admitted students who have come to join this advancing phenomenon. I wish to also extend an assuring invitation to all intending students to make a quick and timely decision to enrol in our programmes.
Once again, I welcome you to the Postgraduate School, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, the perpetual best State University in Nigeria and the flagship of creativity and excellence in technology-driven education in Nigeria.
